Workshop: Introduction to Visible Mending [Weave Method]

from $55.00

For less than the price of 2 or 3 pairs of new hiking socks, join me to learn a valuable skill that you can use to repair socks, beanies, jumpers, and many other favourites for the rest of your life.

WHY?

When we mend we are actively choosing a future without the devastating impacts of fast fashion.

When we mend visibly we are literally wearing our values on our sleeves, which helps to normalise mended clothing and starts wonderful conversations.

When we repair, we add stories to our clothing and belongings, and they feel more special for the extra attention and love we have given them.

WHEN?

Friday 15th November, from 10am - 1pm

WHERE?

I’m my home studio in Geilston Bay, lutruwita/Tasmania. (I’ll email you the address close to the workshop)

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

This workshop is designed for a beginner sewer, but folks with sewing experience will definitely learn new skills, and new ways to think about mending.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Over 3 hours you’ll learn

  • why repairing visibly is a great idea

  • what is weave mending (it’s the more fun, decorative cousin of traditional darning)

  • what repairs suit the weave technique

  • what tools and materials you need, and where to find them frugally and resourcefully

  • some fundamentals of sewing

  • how to do the weave mend, step-by-step on a scrap piece of fabric

  • there will be time to either start a mend on a clothing item of your own (I’ll send some ideas of what to bring via email) and/or we can chat over techniques on how to mend items you have at home.

You’ll get to take home

  • a needle and thread to get you started

  • a workbook with step-by-step instructions

  • the example mends you have made

A cuppa tea and coffee and something to nibble as we work will be provided.

COST

All mending workshops are run on a sliding-scale model, with three tiers to support the transfer of mending knowledge to folk from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Note: all tiers receive exactly the same workshop and resources, and all ticket purchases are anonymous.
